Information

Many children are in the custody of the Nevada foster care system and are eligible and waiting for a permanent home.

The children who wait are the survivors of abuse and neglect. They are school-aged children, brothers and sisters, children of color and those with disabilities. These children live in a series of foster and group homes. There they wait. They hope for the stability and love of an adoptive family.

In Nevada, child welfare services (including the adoption of children in foster care) are provided by three separate entities depending on the location of residence:

Adoption Resource Coordinator

Nevada Resource clipart A full-time Adoption Resource Coordinator serves as an advocate & liaison for  adoptive families, helping them to identify, locate and access information and resources. The Coordinator maintains information on Nevada resource agencies and organizations, service providers and informational topics of relevance. In addition, the Coordinator provides support and advocates for the development, expansion and/or improvement of services for pre- and post-adoptive families.

The Nevada Office of The Adoption Exchange, in partnership with KLAS TV (a CBS affiliate), anchorman Dave Courvoisier, and Clark County Department of Family Services, films Wednesday's Child features of children in foster care waiting for an adoptive home. These segments air every Wednesday during the 6:00 am and 4:00 pm news programs.

Adoption Parties

Networking parties for families interested in adopting, children waiting in foster care and their caseworkers, and prospective adoptive families are sponsored several times a year. The parties offer a unique opportunity for families, children and caseworkers to connect while in a safe, relaxed, fun atmosphere.  Contact Adoption Parties for more information or questions.


The Collaboration to AdoptUsKids

The Nevada Office serves as the Recruitment Response Team (RRT) for all inquiries to AdoptUsKids from Nevada residents, ensuring that each individual receives a state-specific information packet as well as ongoing support and follow-up contact.

Newsletter

The Nevada Office publishes a semi-annual newsletter that features current foster, pre- and post-adoptive resources as well as stories of interest to foster or adoptive parents and professionals.

All Clark County licensed foster care and adoptive parents should receive a copy automatically. If you would like to sign up to receive this newsletter by email or contribute information, please contact our office.
